Also known as: personally identifiable information

Personally identifiable information is any data that identifies an individual, directly or in combination with other data. The DPDP Act uses the term "personal data", defined as data about an individual who is identifiable by or in relation to such data.

PII is the common industry term; personal data is the statutory one. In Indian practice they are used interchangeably, though the Act's definition is what governs.
