Also known as: data map
A record of where personal data lives across an organisation — which databases, object stores, SaaS applications and file shares hold it, and what categories of data each contains.
Discovery producing a regenerating inventory is the foundation obligation: every other DPDP duty is defined against personal data you have actually found. The gaps are usually reporting replicas, departmental SaaS and free-text fields.
