Data Protection Board of India

Also known as: DPB

The adjudicating body established by the DPDP Act. It inquires into personal data breaches and complaints, directs remedial measures, and imposes financial penalties in accordance with the Schedule to the Act.

The Board determines penalties having regard to matters such as the nature, gravity and duration of the breach, the type of personal data affected and any mitigating action taken — which is why evidence of a functioning programme matters.
